THE RACE COURSE

The race will have a head start on a line between the South-East end of Coast Guard Island (Corner of Credit Union Parking Lot) to the old Marine Railway on the Oakland side.  Boats will start at approximately 60 second intervals.  Boats must pass through the Coast Guard Island Bridge with the clearance Gage to starboard.  The race will be counterclockwise around Coast Guard Island (island stays to port), honoring all day markers (leaving them to port), and finishing at a line from the South-East end of Coast Guard Island to the North corner of the Western most covered boat dock on the Alameda side of the Estuary.

MIMINUM RACING WEIGHT:   2,000 POUNDS

Additional Security information

Due to current Coast Guard security concerns, we will need the names of all participants and guests who will need access to the island at least 4 days before the event, even if they will be arriving by boat.  All adults will need a government issued picture ID (driver’s license will do).  People who wish to bring their vehicles on the island (even outside the fence) will need their vehicle registration and proof of insurance in addition to their driver’s license.

BOAT LAUNCHING AND MOORING

The most convenient launch location is the Grand Street boat ramp in Alameda, directly across the estuary from Coast Guard Island.  There is space to swap crews between races at Taney Pier on Coast Guard Island and that space will be available for whaleboats during the party.  Overnight mooring at Taney Pier is not available.  Please see “Additional Security Information” above.
